Chaos And Beyond

Friday, June 10, 2011

It is hot in the barn this summer.  Bins holding clay, topped by sections of cat molds, respond to too much weight by breaking.  Clay, molds, bottom boards, and plastic sheeting are strewn on the floor.

M. fled the barn.  He calls to warn me about the chaos.

    “Are you OK?”

    “Yes.”

    “How do the molds look?”

    “Nothing looks broken.”

We can bring chaos to order when I return home.

The break is over and this IEP meeting has resumed.

Stan will use information he has recalled/observed in conversations with others.

Lawyer       “At this point he is still learning to recognize what it is he has observed.”

Teacher      “But he is actually doing this somewhat now.  Shouldn't the goal be to

                     increase his utilization?”

Layer          “Maybe this goal should be benchmarked.  It's a compound goal.”

Stan will demonstrate the ability to work and play with others as described below.

Lawyer        “Is there a way to measure this without having the measure drive the

                     goal?”

Teacher       “What if we measure it by activity?

Can we pick a group activity that is somewhat structured but has

some loser characteristics, and that occurs every day?”

Everyone agreed and we picked an activity.

After all, ya gotta love occupation.  Ya gotta love structure.
