Building the Cradle
Saturday, May 14, 2011
We had our first warm spring evening last night.
L. and I started building a cradle to hold tiger cat. She had
never used a power saw or screw gun before. I showed L.
how to clamp materials so that she could work safely. I
demonstrated each tool in turn as we worked and
showed her where she needed to hold and move to be effective.
L. took over. The sound of her working rhythm provided a
counterpoint to the song chirped by the spring peepers.
I worked ahead setting up for each of L's next step.
Two peacefully intense work hours flew by.
When we broke work, L. said that she could feel
the smell of the fresh cut wood. A non- tangible sensation, tangible.
