GLASS:  A Beginning And a New Start

Enter Text

I started working with glass in 2001.

The abrasive materials in my molds began to affect my health.

I worked in other materials.

Happily life and technology evolves.

New mold materials let me return to glass.

I rebuilt my kiln.

2022: Ushered in the beginning of new studio glass works!

2024: Here is the first completed work.

Svalbard's Kingdom. 2024. 38" h x 10" w x 10"d.

Lamp Work, Fused, Laminated Bori Glass, Steel.

ABOUT: Svalbard's Kingdom celebrates the intent, landscape, and architecture of the Svalbard International Seed Vault.

Recycled and smashed Bori glass was lamp worked into two molds to form the outside surface of the piece. Then fresh Bori glass was lamp worked into the interior of each for strength.

Construction took several weeks, which meant that the glass cracked without annealing, as the piece was constructed.

After an adding an interior core the piece was placed in a gas kiln with the temperature carefully controlled to ensure fusing without full melt.

The two result in pieces were laminated to create a final whole.
